Kranemann Wine Estates in Távora, Portugal, is the realization of German-Canadian wine connoisseur and renowned surgeon Christoph Kranemann's 20-year search across three continents for the perfect terroir. After visiting 200 wineries worldwide and nearly settling in Australia, Kranemann discovered Portugal's wine regions in 2005 through his Portuguese wife.
Captivated by the unique characteristics of Portuguese grape varieties and the Douro Valley's geology, he found his ideal location at Quinta do Convento de São Pedro das Águias, a historic property dating back to the 12th century that perfectly combined his passions for wine, history, and architecture.
In 2018, Kranemann purchased this flagship property from a Canadian mining company, establishing Kranemann Wine Estates as a distinctive winemaking and wine tourism project in the high-altitude Távora Valley, where granite and schist soils create extraordinary DOC Douro and Port wines that embody excellence and the region's unique terroir.
